Florianópolis.
Your New Home.
An island city of 42 beaches, a thriving technology economy, world-class universities, and a quality of life that students from Lagos, London, and Luanda consistently describe as life-changing. This is where your global career begins.
A Place You Will Never Want to Leave
Florianópolis is consistently ranked as Brazil's best city to live and work in. It brings together world-class education, a booming technology sector, extraordinary natural beauty, and one of the highest standards of living in all of South America.
Home to over 50,000 university students, a dynamic startup ecosystem anchored by the ACATE Technology Park, and Brazil's highest Human Development Index, Florianópolis is far more than a study destination. It is the foundation from which your international career is built.
For students arriving from Nigeria, Angola, Ghana, the United Kingdom, or anywhere in the world, the cost of living here is a fraction of London, Toronto, or Sydney. Yet the quality of life, the infrastructure, the culture, and the opportunity are comparable to any first-class city on earth.
The city sits on an island connected to the mainland by three bridges, giving it a rare character: urban enough to offer every professional and academic resource you need, yet intimate enough to feel genuinely safe, welcoming, and liveable from the very first day.

Brazil's Silicon Island — The Numbers Behind the Name
Florianópolis earned its title through decades of deliberate investment in education, technology, and innovation. For students in technology, finance, marketing, and cybersecurity, there is no better city in Brazil to build a career.
ACATE Technology Park
The Association of Technology Companies of Santa Catarina (ACATE) represents over 400 companies employing tens of thousands of technology professionals. The park spans multiple innovation hubs across Florianópolis and hosts annual events that attract investors and entrepreneurs from across Latin America, Europe, and beyond.
For DC Global College students, this means real access to internship opportunities, mentorship programmes, and professional networks that most students in other cities cannot reach until years after graduation.
A University City at Its Core
The Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) is ranked among Brazil's top three universities, with over 50,000 students across its faculties. Our campus in Trindade places DC Global College students at the centre of this academic community.
UDESC, the State University of Santa Catarina, adds a further 15,000 students to the city's academic population. Florianópolis breathes education, and that culture permeates every neighbourhood, cafe, and coworking space in the city.
A State Economy Built on Performance
Santa Catarina state consistently ranks among Brazil's top three economies by GDP per capita and human development. The state has one of the lowest poverty rates in the country and one of the highest average salaries — a direct reflection of the strong technology and manufacturing sectors that drive it.
For graduates in FinTech, IT Support, Cybersecurity, and Digital Marketing, the local job market is among the strongest in South America, and the university pathway to the UK, Canada, and beyond extends that opportunity globally.
42 Beaches. Year-Round Sunshine. A Life Worth Living.
Studying in Florianópolis is not a compromise — it is an upgrade. Most of our students arrive expecting a good city and leave describing it as the most extraordinary place they have ever lived.
42 World-Class Beaches
Florianópolis is an island with 42 distinct beaches, each with its own character. Jurerê Internacional attracts an international crowd. Joaquina is famous for surfing. Campeche is quiet and pristine. Praia da Armação is a favourite for students. Within 30 minutes of campus, you can be in the water.
Subtropical Climate Year-Round
The average temperature is 22°C. December through March is warm and sunny. June through August is mild, with temperatures rarely falling below 14°C. There is no harsh winter to survive — the city remains active and enjoyable throughout the year.
Outstanding Food, Culture, and Nightlife
The city has an extraordinary food culture shaped by its Portuguese, Italian, and German heritage, combined with the freshest Atlantic seafood. From local mercados to international restaurants, eating well in Florianópolis is effortless and affordable. The cultural calendar includes film festivals, music events, and Carnival celebrations that define Brazilian identity.
Among Brazil's Safest Cities
Florianópolis consistently records among the lowest crime rates of any major Brazilian city. The combination of high employment, strong social infrastructure, and a large student population creates an environment where international students genuinely feel safe walking, cycling, and socialising throughout the city.

Where to Live, Eat, Study, and Explore
Florianópolis is made up of distinct neighbourhoods, each with its own personality. Here is what you need to know before you arrive.
Trindade
DC Global College Campus Location
Trindade is the academic heart of Florianópolis, built around the UFSC campus. It is the most student-oriented neighbourhood in the city, with dozens of independent cafes, affordable restaurants, bookshops, and coworking spaces. Bus connections reach every part of the island within 30 minutes. Accommodation here is walking distance from campus and among the most affordable in the city. Most DC Global College students choose to live in Trindade, and the community it offers becomes one of the most valued parts of their experience.
Centro
Commercial Heart of the City
The city centre sits on the mainland bridge connection and houses the main commercial district, government buildings, shopping centres, and the historic Mercado Público — a landmark market dating back to 1851 where fresh seafood, local produce, and craft vendors share space with popular bars and restaurants. Centro is the hub for banking, administrative services, and major transport connections, making it an essential part of daily life for all DC Global College students.
Jurerê Internacional
The Riviera of South America
Jurerê Internacional is frequently described as one of the most beautiful beach districts in South America. It attracts an international crowd, hosts major summer events including electronic music festivals, and lines its seafront boulevard with open-air restaurants and bars. A 40-minute bus ride from Trindade, it is a weekend destination that students return to throughout their time in Florianópolis. The experience of spending a Sunday afternoon at Jurerê is something former students consistently mention years after leaving.
Lagoa da Conceição
The Cultural Soul of Florianópolis
Lagoa da Conceição is the most bohemian and culturally vibrant neighbourhood in the city, built around a large lagoon in the centre of the island. It is home to independent galleries, live music venues, artisan markets, waterfront restaurants, and a creative community that attracts artists, entrepreneurs, and students in equal measure. The lagoon itself offers windsurfing, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding. On weekday evenings, the main strip transforms into one of the best nightlife corridors in southern Brazil.
Trindade — Everything You Need, Within Walking Distance
DC Global College is positioned at the centre of Florianópolis's academic community, surrounded by the resources, connections, and culture that make student life genuinely fulfilling.
Walking Distance to UFSC
One of Brazil's top-three universities is minutes from campus. DC Global College students benefit from proximity to UFSC's libraries, sports facilities, student events, and a community of over 50,000 students — creating a social and academic environment that is rarely available to private college students anywhere in the world.
Excellent Transport Throughout the Island
Direct bus routes connect Trindade to Centro, the airport, and every major beach on the island. The city is compact enough that no destination requires more than 45 minutes by public transport — making Florianópolis remarkably easy to navigate for newly arrived international students.
Independent Cafes, Restaurants, and Culture
Trindade has dozens of independent cafes and restaurants catering to a student population from across Brazil and the world. The neighbourhood is lively without being overwhelming — an important distinction for students arriving in a new country for the first time.
Technology Companies as Immediate Neighbours
Several of Brazil's most successful technology companies maintain offices in and around Trindade. For students in IT, AI, Digital Marketing, and Cybersecurity, meaningful career conversations can begin long before graduation — simply by being present in the right neighbourhood.
Everything You Need to Know Before You Arrive
DC Global College's student welfare team handles the complex parts of arriving in a new country. Here is what to expect from day one.
SIM Card and Mobile
Upon arrival, our welfare team will guide you to the nearest Vivo or Claro store in Trindade where you can purchase a prepaid SIM card. A Brazilian number is essential for WhatsApp communication and for registering with local services. Monthly plans with generous data allowances cost approximately USD 10–15.
Banking
International students can open accounts with Nubank or Banco Inter — both are fully digital, require no minimum balance, and offer free PIX transfers. Both banks accept foreign documentation and can be opened from your smartphone within minutes of receiving your registration documents from DC Global College.
Transport
Florianópolis operates an integrated bus system covering the entire island. A rechargeable transport card (Cartão Floripa Bus) costs approximately USD 1 and reduces each journey by around 20% compared to cash fares. Monthly unlimited travel passes are available for students. Uber and 99 are widely available for late-night journeys.
Healthcare
Brazil's public health system (SUS) is available to all registered residents, including international students holding a valid VITEM IV visa. DC Global College's welfare team registers all students with the local health centre (UBS) in Trindade within the first week of arrival. For private consultations, clinics in Trindade charge approximately USD 30–60 per appointment.
Shopping and Groceries
Supermercado Bistek and Giassi are the main supermarket chains near campus, with excellent fresh produce sections and competitive prices. The Ceasa market on Saturday mornings sells fresh fruit and vegetables at exceptionally low prices and is a favourite among the student community. Shopping centres including Beira-Mar Norte and Iguatemi house international brands and electronics retailers.
Language
Portuguese is the language of daily life in Florianópolis. DC Global College's Language Programmes include Portuguese for Internationals specifically designed to help students integrate quickly. Within the university district, English is widely spoken and the student community is internationally diverse. Students regularly report that their Portuguese improves dramatically within the first three months of arrival.
You Are Never Navigating This Alone
DC Global College provides structured academic and personal support throughout every stage of your studies — from your first day in Florianópolis to the moment your university abroad accepts you.
Orientation Week
Every intake begins with a structured orientation week covering campus facilities, city navigation, student welfare services, academic expectations, SINCRE registration at the Federal Police, and social integration activities designed to help students from different countries connect quickly.

Every DC Global College student is assigned a personal tutor who monitors academic progress, provides regular one-to-one sessions, and serves as the first point of contact for any challenge — academic, personal, or practical — that arises during your studies.
Monthly Progress Reports
Formal monthly assessments track your development against programme benchmarks. Results are shared with students and families, with clear guidance on areas of strength and areas where additional support is available.
University Pathway Preparation
From the midpoint of your programme, our academic team begins preparing your university application — personal statement, academic references, portfolio guidance, and interview preparation. Our target is that every qualifying student receives at least one confirmed university offer before graduation.
Career Services
Professional CV development, LinkedIn profile building, mock interview sessions, and direct introductions to our employer partner network are all included as standard across every programme at DC Global College — not offered as optional extras.
What Students from Africa Say About Florianópolis
The most honest assessment of a city comes from those who chose to build their lives there. These are the experiences our students share.
"I arrived from Lagos not knowing a single word of Portuguese and knowing no one in Brazil. Within two weeks of orientation at DC Global College, I had a friendship group from Nigeria, Angola, Ghana, and Brazil. Within three months, I was ordering food and negotiating my transport card in Portuguese. Florianópolis is the kind of city that absorbs you. The beach, the people, the pace of life — it changes you. I came here to get a qualification. I am leaving with a career path, a second language, and a city I will return to every year for the rest of my life."
"The cost of living here compared to what I would have paid in the UK is extraordinary. I live well. I eat well. I study at a high standard. And I have beach access on weekends. None of that was possible at the price I was being quoted in London."
"My family was concerned about my safety in Brazil. After three months in Florianópolis, they visited and could not believe the city. The infrastructure, the cleanliness, the friendliness of people — it was not what any of us expected. They left wanting to move here themselves."
"The technology ecosystem here is genuinely impressive. I have been to networking events in Trindade where I met founders of companies that operate across three continents. For an IT student, the professional access this city provides is remarkable."
Life Beyond the Classroom
Florianópolis is a city that rewards curiosity. Every weekend brings a new beach, a new neighbourhood, a new experience. Your studies are the foundation — the city is everything built on top of it.
